Diaz Project - Log Home Construction 2001

Project description

The Diaz's custom hand crafted log home was a first for me. The construction methods and details on a home like the Diaz house is different than your standard stick frame home. From slip jointed wall connections to tightening bolts that run through each log as they stack on top of one another, knowing how to deal with the details is a critical point of the construction and what makes the log home a successful build. The house may not be big in square footage but the large bold details make this house feel like a true mountain lodge.

What made this project difficult?

Some of the difficulties with this home started off being the road into the lot. We had to have the log truck park at the bottom of the curvy narrow and steep drive and off-load the logs by a crane onto a smaller truck. The smaller truck was then pulled up the hill using a trackhoe. Once the truck reached the top, another crane was set up to lift the logs into place on top of the floor. It rained like crazy for the two days it took to set the logs and then when we finished up on the third day, the clouds parted and sun was shining bright. Making sure all of the construction details were handled properly was also a learning experience, it took some quick learning, lots of reading and watching video's to make sure the house construction was a success.
